Korean is fastest growing language in India
Korean language learning is surging in India, fueled by the immense popularity of Korean pop culture, especially after the release of hit shows like Squid Game. According to a survey conducted by Duolingo, Korean has emerged as the fastest-growing language in India, surpassing English and Hindi. The survey, which involved over 1,000 participants across major Indian cities, revealed that Korean is now the fifth most popular language on the Duolingo app in India.
The rise in interest is largely attributed to Indian millennials and Gen Z, who are drawn to Korean entertainment, particularly K-pop and TV series like Squid Game.
This trend reflects a broader global phenomenon, with Asian languages gaining traction worldwide. Japanese, for instance, has seen significant growth in the US and UK, becoming the fifth most studied language on the app. Similarly, Chinese has climbed to become the eighth most popular language, overtaking Russian and Portuguese.
As Asian entertainment continues to captivate audiences globally, the interest in studying languages like Korean and Japanese shows no signs of slowing down.
